$30-million facelift

The Irvine Co. has announced that its Woodbridge Village Center, located on Barranca Parkway in Irvine, will soon get a $30 million facelift. The community is invited to get a first look at the reinvestment plans during an open house on Saturday, April 16, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Irvine Co. representatives will share a 3-D model, renderings of the center and answer questions about the upgrade during the open house.
Having served as a community gathering spot since its opening in 1979, the intention is to maintain the property as a central gathering place for the city, the company said. Renovation plans call for creating what is being called “the city’s front porch,” according to Dave Moore, president of Irvine Company Retail Properties.
To create this larger gathering space the existing two-story building will be removed to make way for more expansive views of the lake. Nearly 15,000 square feet of mixed-use property will be eliminated, the company said. The expanded outdoor area will be designed to bring families together to relax, enjoy outdoor entertainment and to shop and dine.
Construction will begin in late summer and completion of the project is scheduled for mid-2017.
Saturday’s open house will be held in a storefront across from Champagne’s French Bakery Café.
