For the past two years there’s been a 3-2 split on the Irvine City Council on several key issues. Now that the “two” in that split—former Councilmembers Jeff Lalloway and Lynn Schott—have been replaced by newly elected and sworn-in Councilmembers Farrah Khan and Anthony Kuo, it will be interesting to see if the council comes to consensus on key issues, or if new coalitions will develop.
Many observers anticipate that the votes won’t be as predictable as in the past.
Our new and energetic city manager John Russo and his additions to city staff team are already changing business as usual in Irvine, as we report in this issue on page 1.
We have confidence that the city’s seasoned and experienced leaders in Mayor Wagner, Mayor Pro Tem Christina Shea and Councilmember Melissa Fox, will be open to ideas of the two newest council members, and the Councilmembers Kuo and Khan will accept the insight of those who have led the city so well for the past two years, and longer when it comes to the veteran on the council, Christina Shea.
Perhaps more importantly, the entrenched enmity that some councilmember’s displayed for others in recent years may also be a thing of the recent past. Here’s hoping!
