Irvine Valley College volleyball star Hailey Jones, who helped lead the Lasers’ to their first indoor state championship, is headed to San Diego State this fall.

The sophomore setter was a two-year first team all-Orange Empire Conference player during her time at Irvine Valley. Jones was also named to the all-region team after her 2013 freshman season.

In 2014, Irvine Valley College finished with a perfect 27-0 record. The team dominated all season long, losing just seven sets all season, as the Lasers swept 21 of 27 opponents.

In the state championships, Irvine Valley ended Cabrillo College’s 62-match win streak after losing just a single set. Jones had a season-best 51 assists in Irvine Valley’s four-set win over Cabrillo in the CCCAA State Championship final on Dec. 7 at Cabrillo.

Hailey Jones’ Impressive 2014 Season at Irvine Valley

During her championship season, Hailey Jones averaged 11.43 assists and 2.08 digs per game — while hitting .457. Over her two season, Jones helped guide the Irvine Valley women’s volleyball team to a 51-2 record and two undefeated Orange Empire Conference championships. In addition to 181 digs, her season total 994 assists ranked her first in the state in assists per set.

The 5′ 7″ volleyball star setter finished the 2013-14 season with 847 assists, 176 digs, 21 blocks and 23 aces. She also topped 50 assists in three matches in 2013, including a season-high 54 in Irvine Valley’s five-set loss to Cabrillo at the state tournament.

Success has come easy to Jones. In 2012, she led her Rim of the World High School team from Lake Arrowhead to a CIF title. She hopes to continue that winning tradition at San Diego State.  Last year, SDSU finished 14-15 overall with a 9-9 conference record.
